Analysis of another students video- ' RingOfTrees'
I decided to analyse an opening title sequence which was graded with an E, as I believed that a lower marked video will teach me what to not include in my own final video and how certain shots, lighting or transitions can effect your grade.Overall the extract was a bad example of a thriller. Throughout the extract, the video quality was very poor and didn't come across as professional. I found that the story line was very un-clear and caused a confusion from the audience due to them not being engaged and sure on as to what exactly the opening sequence was about. I also thought that the acting and dialogue was to a very low standard and in certain scenes, for example when the group entered the park, I struggled to hear what the characters were saying. In addition, costume choices were very basic and no effort was portrayed in their outfits. And therefore I couldn't view an instant indicator as to what their roles were. When the characters were walking through the park, the wind was very loud and the lighting was too dark, therefore I struggled to see what was taking place and hear the dialogue.
Overall, this extract has taught me to not use dark lighting which would cause the audience to struggle viewing the video and to make sure that the video quality is to a high standard, so that it comes across as professional. Another thing I've learnt, is that when I include non-diegetic music, I have to make sure the dialogue from the actors can still be heard.
