Planning Journal- The narrative

The narrative

After responding to our friends and families opinions, we decided to abandon the first initial idea due to it being too generic and not original enough. Therefore we decide to go with our second initial idea which was set in a typical household and and the story line would be based around a psycho male who a has sinister secret which involves victimisimg women. We decided to stick with this idea as we found that it would be more engaging and put the viewers on edge.

Here is our story line:

The extract will begin with an establish shot of the house , which will present the location to the audience. Whilst showing this, the audience will hear water running from the shower and classical music playing (from the inside the house) The main antagonist will then get out of the shower and put on a dressing gown or towel. He will then walk over to a mirrored cupboard in the bathroom and will take a look in the mirror, and this will be shown using an over the shoulder shot as it will allow us to see his face and emotions. He will then put on his watch and the audience will then hear the hands loudly ticking. In addition, the Inside the cupboard will be filled with rows of pills, bottles and needles and then he will take one bottle off the shelf and place a few pills onto his hand. The audience will then see him take a glass of water and then swallow the medication. The ticking sound will then immediately become more muffled as soon as he swallows the medication as it will represent the noises in his head being tamed by the pills.

Following this he will walk into his bedroom and will get dressed into a shirt, trousers etc and will then put on unusual items maybe including a weird ring. The audience will then view the antagonist standing in front off a wall which will be covered in pictures of girls, newspaper clippings and articles of missing person cases. The rest of his room will be immaculately clean and tidy as this represents his character having OCD,  however this wall will be busy and draw the readers attention. He will slowly walk alongside the wall, and this will be slowed down in editing for effect.  In addition, In the background we will hear news reports of missing girls, including their names, and this will cut to a flashback of a cross being drawn over that girls picture then return to him walking alongside the wall. The sound of these reports will be slightly muffled and sound out of tune at the end to give it a retro feel and like it isn't working properly and we will see him walk up to his record player and turn the music off. Finally he will finish at the picture of one victim and smile (in a creepy way) and trace is finger across her cheek.

Then the camera will cut to outside and show somebody pressing the doorbell. He then walks out of his room and the camera will follow him walking down the stairs and then once he's reached the bottom he will take a deep breath and exhale, which will then cause the audience to feel confused and question as to why he feels unnerved. He will then reache the door and opens it and the audience will view a a teenage girl standing on the step. Following this there will be a brief exchange of dialogue and the scene will finish on a cliff hanger.
